Meet your Council 2017/18

The Institute of Banking is governed by a board of 14 directors known as the Council. The Council comprises the President, who chairs Council, Deputy President, Vice President and an Independent Council member who are elected to these offices at the Institute’s Annual General Meeting. Certain corporate members of the Institute appoint and elect some members to Council, while certain categories of professional members of the Institute elect others. The purpose of the Independent Council member is to bring an independent, objective and external perspective to the board. Council is responsible for the effective, prudent and ethical oversight of the Institute. It sets the Institute’s strategic aims and is collectively responsible for its long-term success. Council meets a minimum of four times during the year and in addition Council members serve on Council committees, with individual committees having a similar number of meetings as Council. For more information about Council and its committees go to our Governance page.
